GameSpot Schweiz (R.I.P.)

Gameloft / Gamez.de (R.I.P.) - 82%

GameSpot Australien - 95%

"What we really got excited about within Fallout Tactics were the fascinating little details. The way that enemies who are responding to a threat in battle have a diminished perception - they will be less likely to notice another attacker, sneaking up on them. This, although a small point, can make ounces of difference to your enjoyment, particularly when you make little investigative prods into the boundaries of the game's reality simulation. The game can even be played as a turn-based experience rather than realtime, if you prefer. We found Fallout Tactics to be an exquisitely supreme realtime game, and one well worth the money of any jaded strategy gamer. Newbies to PC games may find it extreme, but the combination of ultra hardcore gameplay depth and consistently entertaining events and video make it very attractive to the rest of us. Very attractive indeed."

Game Industry News - 4.5 von 5

"In all, Fallout Tactics gets an impressive 4 1/2 GiN Gems. We took a small half-point away because we really, really wanted to see some more personality differences between squad members along the lines of another Interplay game: Jagged Alliance 2. But JA2 does not have multiplayer and Fallout Tactics is basically designed for it, so Fallout Tactics should rule the roost. Fans of turn-based games or hybrids like the X-Com series will LOVE Fallout Tactics. We loved this game, and if you disagree you can talk to our little friend the plasma rifle."

The Gamers Temple - 91%

"Fallout Tactics does a good job of borrowing the RPG elements that many find the most enjoyable - advancing character skills and a huge variety of weapons - and mixes it in with a solid tactical combat game. The missions require you to make use of small unit tactics, and while some of them do play out in a somewhat linear manner, they are not merely a series of puzzles in disguise as in some other squad-based games."

GameSpy - 89%

"Maybe not all in the Brotherhood are out to save humanity? In the end, Fallout: Tactics is an absolute masterpiece -- it's hard to express my enjoyment of this game in words. Unfortunately, it's equally hard to express the frustration of seeing my roommate not being able to get his copy to work. Apparently, there are a large number of people who are having issues with installing the game and crashing on launch, so we're hoping Interplay will produce a patch soon. Without this issue, this score could have easily been in the 90's. If you can get it running -- and most will -- Fallout: Tactics is worth every last penny."

Gone Gold - 88%

"It's the sheer number of bugs in the game that keeps Fallout Tactics from Pure Gold status. From the minor - characters flickering next to other objects; to the major - the game lost all of my saves except the most recent, the bugs can't be ignored completely. Fortunately, these bugs don't ruin or severely affect the overall fun of the game, and it's the fun of Fallout Tactics that leads us to award Golden Nuggets."

[ "Thumbs up" - Daumen hoch! ]

"...Fallout Tactics is an excellent game. It is VERY much like Talonsoft's Jagged Alliance. But one is a modern day tactical war sim, and the other focuses on the world after it has been irradiated. Fallout Tactics allows you to enter vehicles drive them, and perform combat while inside them. You can run guys over, toss a grenade at them, or sniper from a roof top. The sheer number of weapons and items is amazing, although many of them aren't explained in enough detail. For instance, through-out the game there are a host of drugs, and drug related items. Taking these items causes you to get addicted, and eventually screws up your status."

Firing Squad - 86%

"Whether you play in real-time or turn-based mode, you'll enjoy the intricate combat system that gives some of the best squad combat ever. Crouch, duck, run, snipe or go full auto - that's up to you.

...
Fallout: Tactics isn't just one of the better squad-combat games out there. It's also a decent action game, and has strong roleplaying aspects. Last E3, I called attention to the many titles featuring character advancement (levels, experience, skill) in various non-RPG genres. Tactics is by far one of the better implementations we've seen of this, thanks to its RPG roots.

The great-looking engine and thematic artwork, combined with a soundtrack that helps deliver the feeling of a nuclear wasteland work to create a beautiful game. Micro Forte's attention to detail and attempts to offer non-combat related options have gone a long way to making extended sessions with Tactics pleasant. The mature, realistic writing and plot design, coupled with good voice acting deliver a convincing background for the battles in the game. However, we're not sold on replay value (despite the long length of the game) and broad appeal, so the score is a few points lower than the review and ballistics report would lead you to believe. Still, if Fallout or squad-combat games get your attention, then we can't think of a better game for you to take a look at."

"The king of tactical combat games."

GameReviewOnline -

"If you ever watched the Mad Max movies - and wish you could have been there - you will love this game."

IntelGamer - 85%

"Multi-player mode is where this game really shines. While killing NPC's is all well and good, there is nothing like fragging your friends, and the bragging rights that follow. The unpredictability and strategy that come from playing a real player really takes the game to a different level. And the turn-based option allows for some strategy that a real-time FPS just does not have."

SystemLogic - 85%

"All said and done, the game is fabulous. I can complain all day long about poor corporate quality assurance practices, but even with the game in its buggy state, I still can't stop playing it. It's an immense amount of fun, and I look forward to seeing fan missions completed for this game (The game editor and scripting tools should be released by the time you read this). The game takes the innovation and, more importantly, the style of the Fallout series, and continues the great legacy. This game serves as both a great example of what to do, and what not to do."

Gamitopia - 84%

"Fallout: Tactics is a superb game and it's definitely worth getting for Fallout fans."

Strategy Informer - 84%

"At first I was disappointed cause they turned Fallout in tactical game, but when I installed FOT and played it for a while, I realized that I have a game that deserves a first place in Top 10 Worth A Buy section!"

GameSpot - 8.3 von 10 ("Great")

"Fallout Tactics has a few strikes against it. It has too many options. It includes a disorganized manual that excludes some very important game mechanics and interface features. It's a testament to the strengths of the game that these shortcomings often seem negligible. The game has a good story and great missions, and the combat is fun once you've found the combination of options that suits you. It'll provide dozens of hours of entertainment to both fans of squad-based combat games and fans of the series and stands a good chance of turning one into the other."

IGN PC - 83%

"But that's no surprise by now. Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steel does just about everything right. The only problem is that there's too much of it. After a certain point, enough is enough. But while your attention holds out, this game is incredibly fun and challenging."

GameSpot UK - 8.3 von 10

"It'll provide dozens of hours of entertainment to both fans of squad-based combat games and fans of the series and stands a good chance of turning one into the other."

Gamers Pulse - 82%

"Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steel is a great squad based strategy game. It will push you to be a better gamer but once complete it has little replay value. Kudos to Microforte for turning out such a fun game - I just wish, well, you know…"

Games Xtreme - 82%

"Overall, the game is still quite solid. A few oversights and bugs are enough to be an annoyance, but not to detract from the overall quality of the game. While there's only 20 single-player missions, each one takes several hours to complete properly unless you're some sort of tactical god, so it should provide quite a bit of entertainment. It's been far too long since we had a good turn-based squad game... hopefully this title signals a future return. "

GameOver - 81%

"I think it's an excellent game, true to Fallout tradition in all respects. Unfortunately, one of those respects is a cavalcade of bugs and a product rushed to the market. One would think that "third time's the charm," but, evidently, it is not."

GameZilla! - 81%

"If you're a fan of the Fallout series, particularly if you enjoyed the combat sections of the first two games, you're going to want to get a copy of Tactics. It adds new depth and action to the Fallout universe, while staying true to the rich history already built for the world. And with the ability to play against real opponents in addition to the engrossing single player campaign there's plenty to keep you busy for weeks. It's not often that a game series can survive a genre change, but Tactics proves not only that it can be done, but does so with flair."

GamesFirst! - 4 von 5

"FOT is a good game and a fine addition to the Fallout mythology. As a successor to XCOM or a competitor with games like Jagged Alliance, I think it works well. Once the bugs are repaired, it'll work even better. However, the lack of innovation in the genre, a hallmark of Fallout 1 and 2, some disappointing design decisions, and playability issues preclude a perfect review. It's worth the time of anybody into squad-based tactics or fans of Fallout in general. Just wait for it to be fixed before purchase."

Swankygames - 4 von 5

"Overall the game is a joy to play and I would heartily recommend it to any Fallout fan or fan of other games of a similar nature. There were issues and this review brings what I felt were major issues to inform the consumers of. Multiplayer needs some work but there is supposed to be a patch out soon that will address some of those issues. Perhaps if there was a single problem about this game that bugged me while playing was that Fallout Tactics has so much potential still in it that could have been exploited to make what could have been an amazing title. I can settle with 'very good' in the mean time."

Computer And Video Games - 8 von 10

"If Fallout Tactics proves anything, it's that in the right hands, turn-based strategy can be just as engrossing as an action-based strategy game. It's very reminiscent of X-COM in more ways than one. Many hi-tech weapons and items come into play as you make your way through the missions, and your squad members improve after every mission, providing, of course, they don't die along the way. Each member gets experience for every kill, and when they get enough experience they gain a level and earn skill points. There is a wide variety of skills to put your skill points into, and you can customise your squaddies to a large degree by concentrating them in different skill areas, eventually helping them to become 'experts' in their chosen field. To the credit of FT's creators, you can easily see the effects of your background skill-tinkering on the battlefield. For example, it's vital to have at least one crew member with a high skill in doctoring or first aid, otherwise you'll spend a fortune on stimpaks (health packs) before every mission. Lock-picking is very handy too if you don't want to miss out on some of the better items on the battlefield. The sneak skill is not only useful, it's absolutely essential on missions where you need to get a squad member into a heavily guarded area undetected, unless you want to spend an age breaking down the enemy front line."

ActionTrip - 78%

"Fallout fans will appreciate the chance to cruise post-apocalyptic America's highways again, and the fans of turn-based strategies will also find something to their liking. If you don't belong to any of those groups, that just goes to say that you never played Fallout 1 and 2, so you better start off with them first. Or just start with playing Fallout Tactics. Whatever the case, you can't go wrong."

Gamesdomain - 3.5 von 5
[ Die "Second Opinion" fällt deutlich positiver aus! ]

"In the end, this doesn't stop Tactics from being a very good game but it does keep it from being the innovative trailblazer the original was. On the other hand, Tactics is packed with challenging play, multiplayer, dark themes and the same over the top humorous overtones that made the previous Fallout titles such a hit. This is a game that, with a little more polish, (or a mega-patch) could be worthy of our silver award, but it does solidly miss our gold."

Computer Games Online - 3.5 von 5

"Even then, the game still has a strong allure that is difficult to explain. Perhaps it's the Fallout setting, with its dark humor, quirkily fascistic Brotherhood, and ultra-violent combat. Perhaps it's the interplay of role-playing, resource gathering, and tactical combat-it's great fun to get new weapons and new enemies to fight. For fans of Fallout, there's more than enough good gameplay here to justify a purchase. If you are not enamored with the Wasteland, however, and have a low tolerance for roughly finished and rather buggy games, you might want to wait and see how well MicroForte and Interplay patch this one up."

www.MGON.com - 7 von 10

"Fallout Tactics certainly is a good game, it's a nice follow up to the series and gives the player great scope for a long term game. With nice characters, interesting missions and a great set of weapons it deserves its high score. Sadly what lets it down is the fact that while it may be good, it had the potential to be excellent and with some more time, and a bit more paint, it could of been a real high flyer. Still, ideal for the RPG fan who has a lot of spare time and a few multiplayer friends. Contradiction in terms?! Course not!"

Deafgamers - 7 von 10

"Only Fallout fans or turn-based enthusiasts will be satisfied."

PC Gameplay (Printmagazin) - 7 von 10

"Crucially, though, there's now an escape for your single-player boredom - a full-on Internet-capable multiplayer option where you and a couple of mates can pit your favourite squads against each other in a scrap to the death. It's here that the real satisfaction of the bigger weapons such as M16s, flamethrowers, rocket launchers and high- tech plasma guns is evident. Setting fire to an exposed medic brings a certain sense of impish glee and while the enemy tactics in the single-player game are variable and clever, there is, as always, no substitute for frying human flesh."

ESC MAG - 6 von 10

"Despite the title, only one or two levels require tactics beyond the usual RPG party-balancing. One level, the town of Quincy, asks players to rescue hostages before the raiders in each building can set off an alarm. That one works, though it does involve lots of slow, slow creeping around. Otherwise, I finished each level by simply going in guns akimbo. The trusty PipBoy now features a map with numbered "hot" points, but it was easy enough to ignore the suggested order of travel and just take care of business my way.

The best parts of this game come from its source. The apocalyptic Art Deco is always a delight, and there's just something satisfying about watching an enemy be torn in half after a critical hit. The Maximum Blood feature is definitely not for kids, but damn if I don't love its dark humor."
