"If you're still reading, you may be wondering why we're so particularly high on Freedom Force. The answer is simple; it's very, very good. A lot of games have tried to simulate having super powers, and most of them have had some very basic flaws.
...
Freedom Force is an excellent tactical game that should appeal to comic book fans and anyone who's ever wanted to don a towel and jump off the back of a high object, just to see if it would work. It's also a lot safer than the eventual results of such activity."

Gamezilla - 5 von 5 (!!!)

"Truly an original idea, this is hands down the best superhero game ever. With comics on the upswing, gamers of all ages will enjoy the challenges and ultimately the story that is unfolded before you. The additions of online play and hero creation are just icing on the cake."

Gone Gold - 96% [Gameplay sogar 98%!]

Freedom Force is simply one of those games that has to be experienced. I understand that to some, no matter how many good reviews they read about Freedom Force, they will always have reservations about buying it. Don't. If you deprive yourself of this game, you are truly missing something that has never been done before. When is the last time you took a group of wacky super heroes out to beat up on some raptors?

All About Games - 94% (!!!)

"Freedom Force involves some of the best writing, art direction, and voice acting I have experienced in a game. It isn't the fact that these things have been the best ever; lots of other games have managed to have better production values. But never has a game so faithfully embraced its theme. Freedom Force has embraced comics wholeheartedly, which is why it is a great game."

ActionTrip - 93% (!!!)

"Best tactical game I've played in a long time"

Drunkgamers - 92% (!!!)

Well I'm an idiot. I never paid any attention to this game during its development, never even gave it a glance. I assumed that it would be an immature, boring game based on underdeveloped, copycat superheroes with no personality or real plot. Yep, I = idiot alright.

GameSpot - 9 von 10 ["Superb"]

"Freedom Force is primarily a squad-based tactical game. At the beginning of each mission, you choose a squad of up to four heroes from the available roster. You enter the map, fight some enemies, occasionally fight a boss, return to base, and repeat. The combat system is similar in some respects to that in Baldur's Gate, in that it seems like a turn-based system but it plays in real time. You can pause the game whenever you like to issue orders, and you can also slow things down and speed them up at your discretion. Your heroes have a wide variety of attacks and defenses, including melee, projectile attacks, and area- effect attacks. Attacks do different types of damage, such as fire, cold, crushing, mental, magic, and so forth. Defensive powers will generally help against only a particular type of damage, and certain heroes and enemies are particularly vulnerable or immune to certain types."

Multi Player Zone - 9 von 10

"And so the Freedom Force review nears completion, wishing I possessed some super writing durability powers that I’m sadly missing I am forced to draw to a close. Freedom Force is a cracking game that doesn’t take itself too seriously with some graphics to bring a tear (of joy) to your eye and voiceovers to put some laughter in to your voice box. The few problems that I had with the game are soon overcome and ignored as the story rapidly whisks you along its path as the waves of super powers slowly wash over you drawing you into its fantasy world."

Pregaming - 9 von 10

Aside from that minor conceptual flaw this game is a masterwork of comic book goodness. It is one of the few true must-haves for any PC gamer. Get it now.

HomeLanFederation - 90%

Even with the lackluster multiplayer, the single player storyline of Freedom Force is more than enough to give both super hero and PC gaming fans a lot to be thankful for, and Irrational’s current and upcoming mod support for the game is sure to give amateur game designers a lot of room for further adventures of our costumed characters. Let’s hope we don’t have to wait long for more cool super hero games to come down the pike.

RPG Planet - 89%

"The gameplay isn't innovative (it plays very much like the combat in X-Com Apocalypse and Baldur's Gate), but it's relentlessly focused and carefully polished. At its most basic level, Freedom Force is pauseable real- time combat, and the game sports a lot of it."

The Armchair Empire - 88%

"That complaint aside, Freedom Force is an excellent game, one that has restored my enthusiasm for the comic characters of old and their exciting, ideologically simple- minded pursuit of life, liberty and happiness."

Gamer´s Hell - 88%

"In the end, Freedom Force is one of the most fun and unique games currently available for your PC. Who would've ever thought such a comic-based RPG would offer so much fun? Definitely a must-have game."

Gamerspulse - 88%

"The game’s greatest fault is its simplicity - to which a minimal number of controllable units, and overly forgivable opponent A.I primarily contribute. While the multi-player mode is novel, Freedom Force’s fundamental lack of a deep and involving strategic dimension hurts replay value; online play is simply too ill- supported by the basically light strategy component to be considered much more than a novelty experience. A satisfying single-player campaign along with an incredibly engaging character creation system, however, makes this one a heartily recommended buy. Add a sharp visual presentation that acutely conveys the look and feel and vintage comics, and Freedom Force stands as a title with unusual flair."

Australian GameZone - 87.5%

I am very proud to be an Aussie an any day, but today I am even prouder!!! Irrational Games' Canberra office has produced a top-notch game that is easily the best in it's genre to date. There is a bit of room for improvement with the game, but as you've seen from my review, the miniscule "bad" points aren't even worth a mention as this the game's great feel over-shadows them.

Video Game News - "Thumps Up!" (=Daumen Hoch)

"All in all, Freedom Force turned out to be one of the best titles I’ve had the chance to play this year. Its unique take on an RTS/RPG title, with its inherent Comic Book theme made it something of a unique and enthralling game to play. Though there were some faults in the core gameplay design, an overwhelming number of positive elements overshadowed them by far. If you’re a fan of classic comic book super-heroes or just an RTS player looking for something different, Freedom Force definitely is the game for you."

The Wargamer - n/a

"Freedom Force is an exceptional game and worthy of praise. It stands as both a delightful homage to the silver age of comics and as a game that breaks the tired sequel mold that most computer games are seemingly locked into. Best of all, the entire system is likely to improve, as the promised skirmish mode and mission editor are released. Technically, it may not stand out from the cutting edge games, but in pure gaming pleasure and enjoyment it is able to leap tall buildings in a single bound."

Frictionless Inside - "Buy it"

The combat is truly tactical, in an attractive, destructible environment. Nearly everything can be picked-up, thrown, destroyed or (if necessary) cowered behind. When you take into account all the special power effects such as mystical hypnosis and energy beams with tremendous knockback, as well as vast sweeping attacks from wielded traffic lights and the effect of thrown vehicles, combat is full of complex, tactical options.

MonkeyReviews - 4 von 5

"Overall, this game is extremely well done. With really small glitches that no one should complain about this game is definitely going to be one of the year’s top hits. A definite purchase worthy game!"

GamePen - 4 von 5

"Perhaps the most impressive of all, however, is the massive support from the mod community. The character tools were released several months before Freedom Force ever hit the store shelves, so that the fanbase would be well established. People who have the skills and the right software are already creating new meshes (the framework of polygons which the skins are mapped onto) and there are literally hundreds of skins you can download, including classic Marvel and DC characters."

Tech TV - 4 von 5

If tactics is the heart of "Freedom Force," then the engaging story line is its soul. Throughout the entire campaign, you can't help but feel that this is a comic book come to life. It's clear that Irrational spent a great deal of time coming up with a cast of memorable characters. Minute Man is particularly entertaining, as he tends to bellow lines such as, "For Freedom!" while dispatching foes.

electric playground - 80%

"Although the type of game has been done before, seldom has it been done this well, plus the superhero concepts are beautifully integrated, making FF a must-do for both strategy and RPG lovers. And yep, comic lovers too, whether you're a hardcore collector who knows what issue of The Amazing Spider-Man Gwen Stacy first appeared in (#31, if I'm not mistaken) or just grew up watching The Superfriends on Saturday mornings."

Barrysworld - 7 von 10

At the end of the day, Freedom Force isn`t everything it could have or should have been. A little tweak here and there of the level design and enemy AI would have resulted in a real classic, but as it stands it`s just not quite as enthralling, exciting and addictive as you would hope. It`s a very accomplished title and one that I have no problem recommending to any PC owner, as long as you`re expecting an engaging and fun action strategy title rather than some form of "super software".
